Few musicians are as accomplished as Francis Wong, considered one of "the great saxophonists of his generation" by the late jazz critic Phil Elwood. A prolific recording artist, Wong is featured on more than forty titles as a leader and sideman. For over two decades he has performed his innovative brand of jazz and creative music for audiences in North America, Asia, and Europe with such with such luminaries as Jon Jang, Tatsu Aoki, Genny Lim,William Roper, Bobby Bradford, John Tchicai, James Newton, Joseph Jarman, Don Moye and the late Glenn Horiuchi. In addition, Wong was a California Arts Council Artist in Residence from 1992 through 1998, and a Meet The Composer New Resident in 2000-2003. In 2000-2001 he was a Rockefeller Next Generation Leadership Fellow.

Francis Wong (Chinese name: 王世明; pinyin: Wáng Shìmíng) is an American jazz saxophonist, flutist, and erhu player. He is of Chinese descent; his father is from Shanghai and his mother is Cantonese. He specializes in the fusion of free jazz and Asian musics, and is a central member in the Asian American jazz movement.

Francis Shi- Ming Wong is an American jazz and improvisation musician (saxophone, the flute, clarinet, violin, percussion), composer and music producer. Wong has Chinese roots and plays since the 1980s in jazz and improvisation scene of the Asian American jazz movement in the San Francisco Bay Area, inter alia, with Mark Izu, William Roper, Bobby Bradford, John Tchicai, James Newton, Joseph Jarman, Don Moye and Glenn Horiuchi. In 1987 he founded the label with Jon Jang Asian Improv Records. Great Wall (1993 ), with Jon Jang, EW Wainwright, Mark Izu, Hafez Modirzadeh. Francis Wong has had a hand in guiding the San Francisco Bay Area Asian Improv label, along with such musicians as Mark Izu, Jon Jang, and the late Glenn Horiuchi. Wong has been a member of both Izu and Jang's groups. He also leads groups of his own, including the Great Wall, the eight-piece Asian Improv Arts Composers Workshop, and the trio Ming.
