Under the Radar: A survey of Afro-Cuban Music is a documentary that examines the enigmatic island's music scene and introduces viewers to the history of Cuban music. This film documents the travels and recordings of its producer/director, jazz saxophonist, J. Plunky Branch, and highlights musical interactions and collaborations with Cuban rumba, son, salsa, thimba, rock, changui, and hip-hop musicians and rappers.

Plunky Branch's & Alvin Skipper Bailey's documentary "Under the Radar - A Survey of Afro-Cuban Music" will premier at the Chicago Latino Film Festival on the festival's opening night, Friday, April 8 at 9:00 PM 2005 and again on Sunday, April 10 at 4:30 PM, at the Landmark Century Centre Theater, 2828 North Clark Street (at Diversity) in. the Century Shopping Center. For over 40 years the United States has maintained an economic blockade against the Island of Cuba, restricting travel, trade and cultural exchange

Plunky & the Oneness of Juju also known as Juju are an afro-funk jazz fusion band led by James "Plunky" Branch. From 1971 to 1974 his band was called Juju, from 1975 to 1981 Oneness of Juju, from 1982 to 1988 Plunky & Oneness of Juju and from 1988 to present day is known as Plunky & Oneness. Their song, "Every Way But Loose" is featured on the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, playing on fictional radio station Paradise FM.

Saxophonist, J. Plunky Branch from Richmond, Virginia and bassist, Ken Shabala (Kent Parker), from Brooklyn, New York, had met at Columbia University in New York where they attended college. There Plunky formed an R&B group called The Soul Syndicate and Kent Parker was its lead singer. Plunky had been raised on southern rhythm & blues and gospel music and had studied jazz and classical music in school. Bassist, Ken Shabala was a R&B vocalist, jazz enthusiast and radio deejay in New York. Lon Moshe had been a part of the Chicago avante-garde jazz scene. Babatunde and Jalongo had long studied African, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian drums and chants and percussion. As Juju, these young Black musicians dedicated themselves to using their music as a vehicle for raising political, spiritual and cultural consciousness.
