Young German pianist Franz Vorraber offers unorthodox performances of Schubert standards that won't be to everyone's taste but that definitely stretch the brains and the ears and don't radically depart from the score. The four Impromptus of Op. 90 are sharply differentiated from one another, and Vorraber makes them into pieces with a more public character than they are usually given. Hear the Impromptu in A flat major, Op.

German pianist Franz Vorraber presents Grand Piano Masters: Impromptu, a programme of solo works by Schubert recorded live at Bad Homburg Castle in Germany. Part of K&K Verlagsanstalt's Grand Piano Masters series, Vorraber performs the beloved 4 Impromptus, Op. 90 and the highly virtuosic "Wandererfantasie", which does indeed wander musically, making for a beautifully balanced and performed collection. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – K&K Verlagsanstalt Studio Masters.

Born in Graz (Austria), Franz Vorraber has been fascinated by the piano since his early childhood. At the age of seven, he played the organ in church standing up - as he could hardly reach the pedals. At the age of thirteen, he was admitted to the piano class for exceptional students at the Music Conservatory in Graz, also learning the violin. The Viennese School in the tradition of Bruno Seidlhofer and the traditional German school of Wilhelm Kempff, handed down by Joachim Volkmann, dominated his study years. He has won many prizes for his skills on the piano.
