Above all, he loves a good tune rather than any flash - something typical of English fiddlers, really. And there are plenty of good tunes that he's written, from the lyrical "Boadicea," penned as a tribute to Sandy Denny, to "March of the Last," with its overtones of the Morris dance tune "Cuckoo's Nest.

Fiddler Dave Swarbrick is one of several great British folk musicians, along with guitarist Richard Thompson and singer Sandy Denny, to have played in the band Fairport Convention. Denny and Thompson had left the group by the early 70s, and Swarb took the wheel until Fairport's (temporary) dissolution in 1979. The performances are energetic, graceful, and at times poignant. Members of Fairport-alas no RT-and Whippersnapper make their appearances along with Carthy and accordionist John Kirkpatrick, and Swarbrick graciously introduces a new tune "Mrs. Marriott," dedicated to his early mentor Beryl Marriott, who accompanies him beautifully on piano. All in all this is a unique-and for me, continually replayable-album, the first and only "Swarbrick plays Swarbrick" collection, with spirited and expert playing, offered at a truly sweet price.

David Cyril Eric Swarbrick (5 April 1941 – 3 June 2016) was an English folk musician and singer-songwriter.

Dave Swarbrick (born 5 April 1941; died 3 June 2016) was an English folk musician. He played violin, viola, mandolin, and guitar. Swarbrick was born in New Malden, Surrey and grew up in Birmingham.

The folk music fiddler Dave Swarbrick, who has died aged 75, was a formidable and intuitive musician who first made his mark with the Ian Campbell Folk Group in the early 1960s. With the folk singer and guitarist Martin Carthy, Swarbrick formed the best-known folk duo of the 1960s, and as a member of Fairport Convention, he directed the band through its early folk-rock period, and emerged as a songwriter of distinction. Various other musical collaborations followed, but the duo with Carthy endured
