This album continues the increase in heaviness by the band started on their previous album Vicious Circle. The band re-branded themselves "The . Guns," at the time of the release of American Hardcore, adding 'the' before its name.

  • This is probably L.A. Guns' weakest and dullest album. In fact, "American Hardcore" sounds NOTHING like the L.A. Guns of the previous albums. The main review above states that this was a return to form for the group, but it's actually the group's attempt to fit into the then-current "grunge movement." The sludgy, down-tuned guitars and Chris Van Dahl's guttural roar doesn't suit the band at all. It baffled and disappointed the band's fans and didn't sell well at all. It would not be until 1998's "Wasted" that would see the band get back on track and return to the sleazy Sunset Strip glam-metal that fans loved and expected and that L.A. Guns were at the top of their game at playing.
