Ruins is a Japanese music duo composed only of drummer/vocalist Tatsuya Yoshida and a bass guitarist (there have been four such bassists in the band's history). The group, formed in 1985, was supposedly intended to be a power trio; the guitarist, however, never showed up to the band's first rehearsal so the group remained a duo. The music touches on progressive rock, jazz fusion and noise rock.
Beneath the Ruins is almost unknown release, familiar maybe to the most enthusiastic collectors only released in 1994. Notable songs from this album are Monologue and the English version of The Tree. After a period of inactivity, the band had a very notable return being the opening band for the first Deep Purple concert in Bulgaria in 1998.
Ruins biography RUINS formed in Japan in 1985. The original idea (as legend has it) was for the band to be a power trio, but the guitarist didn't show up so they became, and remain, a power duo. They combine the raw energy of hardcore punk with progressive rock's flair and musicianship. There have been four line ups so far, featuring n composer Yoshida Tatsuya with a succession of bassists.

Sasaki Hisashi left the band in 2004, and since then Yoshida has been touring solo under the name Ruins-alone (Ruins Alone). He has also performed as Sax Ruins with alto saxophonist Ono Ryoko. He was chosen by Matt Groening to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival Groening curated in May 2010 in Minehead, England. YouTube Encyclopedic.
