Suk: Fairy Tale for violin Op16; Praga Op26.

Suk: Fairy Tale for violin Op16; Praga Op26. Panton Records 811212.

The suite called Fairy Tale by Josef Suk is an arrangement and expansion of the incidental music he wrote for Julius Zeyer's Dramatic Tale Raduzand Mahulena in 1889. The complete incidental music included interludes, postludes, choruses, songs, and melodramas. From this, Suk extracted and then re-composed four movements that charted the destiny of the two title characters. The opening movement, "The Love of Raduz and Mahulena," is a deeply poetic depiction of their love in lushly sweet orchestral colors with the solo violin taking the lead

Fairy Tale (Pohádka), for violin & orchestra (suite from 'Raduz and Mahulena'), Op. 16: Runa's Curse and Victory of Love. 5. Praga, symphonic poem, for orchestra, Op 26. Product details. At around 30 minutes, it's a bit longer than "Praga," a symphonic poem, but it has four movements, each with a distinct expressive feel, and none of them is too long. The scoring is beautiful, and the pull of the slavonic melancholy in the first and third movements particularly is very appealing.
