Love Is the Thing is a 1957 album released by American jazz vocalist Nat King Cole. It is the first of four collaborations between Cole and influential arranger Gordon Jenkins. Launching the charting single "Stardust", which peaked at the album reached on Billboard's "Pop Albums" chart and tied at on the UK Charts with the soundtrack for the 1956 film The King and I. According to the records of the RIAA, the album achieved gold status in 1960 and broke platinum in 1992.

Rolling Stone magazine, in a book called "The Rolling Stone Record Reviews" published in the early 1970s, called this album "the greatest smooch album of all-time." That was a gross understatement! With lush arrangements by Gordon Jenkins, Cole wraps his smooth voice around each lyric of a song as if it should be sung only HIS way. This is the album from which "Stardust" (a charted single) and the classic "When I Fall in Love" originated. Since this album's release, other versions of "When I Fall in Love" were unacceptable until the Celine Dion - Clive Griffin version from the "Sleepless in Seatlle" soundtrack, but it pale's next to Nat's. This album belongs in all collections, regardless of your favorite genre, and by experience, it's presence in your rack will earn you respect from guests allowed to peruse your albums!
