Dappled Cities (formerly "Dappled Cities Fly") are an indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. The band first came together as teenagers in the northern suburbs of Sydney in 1997. Dave Rennick and original drummer Hugh Boyce were joined by Alex Moore on bass and Tim Derricourt on guitar. Keyboards were added occasionally by Mark Bradshaw, and after 2006 more regularly by Ned Cooke.

There’s something so homely about Dappled Cities recent outing ‘Five’. Everything feels in its right place; ebbs and flows so elegantly that you feel like you’re a part of the album. And maybe that’s what makes me love ‘Five’ so much. All the bass lines, the high-pitched vocals, the reverb, oh god that reverb. It’s an all you can eat buffet, lovingly cooked and presented by five world-class chefs who know exactly what they’re doing. A surprising aspect of ‘Five’ is how incredibly robust the album continues to be track after track. The reverb that is soaked into every track builds this incredible world around the listener, and it’s so incredibly easy to get lost in it all. ‘Spacechild’, ‘Weightless’, and ‘Know Your History’ all provide fantastic landscapes to escape into, but never tire or seem samey.

Dappled Cities (formerly Dappled Cities Fly) are a five-piece indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. Their music has been described as art rock or experimental pop. Their guitar-based songs typically combine melodies with the complex time signatures and tempo changes associated with post rock. Occasional falsetto vocals and the use of effects pedals (delay in particular) are also characteristic of their sound.

The line-up has occasionally expanded on stage to include keyboardists Mark Bradshaw and (later) Ned Cooke who is now a permanent member of the band.

It's the fifth album from the five-piece band, and their first album release in five years. Not surprisingly, they called it Five, stylised as IIIII. It was like a beautiful chaos, everything pointing to five," Dave Rennick, the band's guitarist and vocalist, excitedly tells HuffPost Australia.

After 2 years of ludicrously intense international touring and songwriting, Dappled Cities prepare for the release of their 3rd album, the art pop opus, Zounds. The work is the highest achievement of a ten year career traced back from their current home on US powerhouse label Dangerbird Records (also home of Silversun Pickups) to the teenagers first playing music together in their Australian childhood suburbs. The band, originally called Periwinkle, formed in 1997 when 15 year-olds David Rennick and Hugh Boyce were joined by Alex Moore and English born Tim Derricourt.
