Released in Germany in 1997 as "X Chants" (Erdenklang 71002). VOX is the German Munich-based composer and musicologist Vladimir Ivanoff. Most of the vocals on this album are sung by the Lebanese and beautiful contralto singer Fadia El-Hage. Electric guitar riffs are played by Wolfram Nestroy. Vladimir Ivanoff plays synths and samplers.

On Divine Rites, Ivanoff turns to 11th and 12th century chants of the Jewish and Muslim religions from the Middle East. The focus is on the seeds of medieval Christian women's chants. Liturgical words dating back to the 4th and 5th century . were adapted to fit the growing needs of a rising church.

On Divine Rites, VOX creatively revives the early Christian womens chants of the Middle East. With the magnificent singing of Lebanese contralto FADIA EL-HAGE, divine love and the elemental emotion of the human voice meet in an atmosphere of reverent absorbtion. According to Sufi philosophy the purpose of music is to remind the spirit of the realm for which it constantly longs. On its debut album Diadema (1990), Vox reinterpreted the cosmological repertoire of the increasingly popular 11th century German composer Hildegard von Bingen. From Spain to Spain (1992) explored music of the Arab-Spanish culture. Divine Rites reawakens a catalog of remarkable vibrancy. With the inventive, plangent interpretation of Fadia El-Hage and Vox, these ancient chants sustain an oral tradition undimmed by the passage of time. released January 26, 1999.
