This album is one of the most important symphonies by Shostakovich. This is the fifth Shostakovich release featuring the ter Stuttgart and Andrey Boreyko. Many considered it a ""wonderful, passionate performance. Dmitry Shostakovich (1906-1975).

Dmitry Shostakovich: Symphony N. Symphony No 13: Babi Yar. KURT MASUR. Shostakovich could always entertain, even when not consumed with his usual bitterness and sarcasm. My benchmarks for the symphonies have always been Kondrashin, Mravinsky, the Barshai set, and the new complete Petrenko on Naxos. This music really needs a thoroughly Slavic soul – especially the 11th with its many Russian folk songs.

Notable amongst Boreyko’s discography with the ter Stuttgart des SWR (of whom he was Principal Guest Conductor), are Arvo Pärt’s Lamentate and Valentin Silvestrov’s Symphony No. 6 (both for ECM records), the premiere recording of his original version of the Suite from Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and Shostakovich symphonies No. 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 15, both.
