The Kingpin is the debut studio album by American rapper Craig G. It was released in 1989 via Atlantic Records. Audio production was handled by Marley Marl. Track 2 contains elements from "A Quiet Storm" by Smokey Robinson (1975). Track 3 contains elements from "Rock the House (You'll Never Be)" by Pressure Drop (1983). Track 4 contains elements from "Long Red" by Mountain (1972), "Just a Friend" by Biz Markie (1989).

But what is this here? First of all: Craig G is a nice rapper. Good voice, nice battle lyrics and sometimes funny. Unfortunately Marley Marl seemed to be impressed with the commercial success of Jungle Brother's - I'll house you.

They did make some good stuff, but not on this album. This is easily the worst work put out by both of these guys. There are ugly and commercial beats, unthoughtful lyrics, and absolutely no vibe to carry this through. It's almost like Craig G forgot how to rap and was trying to improvise his way through or trying to get all the lyrics written in one day.
