Gaijin à Go-Go brings an infectious Japanese pop sound to the rhythms of 1960s style gogo music. The band quickly signed to Sony Music International and released two albums, Happy55Lucky and Merry55Round, and their latest album, GoGo Boot Camp, premiered at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Cherry Blossom Festival in 2006. Gaijin à Go-Go has played venues throughout New York City including the Knitting Factory, CBGB, Sine, SOBs, Central Park, Prospect Park, at the top of the World Trade Center, RUBULAD, and New Lost City. But they were bona fide BIG in Japan. Don't let their off-beat, humble.

Gaijin à Go-Go is an American J-pop band from New York. In 1999, former model and fashion designer Petra Hanson placed a newspaper ad looking for members for the "fun, fantasy, not fame" band she hoped to form. Bassist Sanford Santacroce, drummer Jon Young, keyboardist Catherine Carney and guitarist Yuji Horibe joined Hanson to form Gaijin à Go-Go. The number of band members varied throughout the years the band was active from the beginning five up to twelve members

GAIJIN A GO-GO has the sound you never knew you were missing: infectious Japanese pop set to the electronic rhythms of go-go music. Under that label they released two full-length albums, Happy-55-Lucky and Merry-55-Round, which features remixes of their songs by Konishi from Pizzicato 5, King Britt and Eighteenth Street Lounge Music’s Ursula 1000. Konishi also asked the band to contribute a remake of the Astro Boy anime theme song for his Atom Is Born compilation on Toshiba. Their latest album, Go-Go Boot Camp, premiered as part of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Cherry Blossom Festival 2006.

There is no escape from the silliness. And on May 21 Sony is releasing Merry-55-Round, a mini-album featuring remixed versions of six of the album’s tracks. As for the band’s name. well, at least they didn’t call themselves Sangokujin a Go-Go. Record company talent scouts usually find promising new acts at live houses or by listening to the bales of demo tapes or CD-Rs they receive. But Toshiba-EMI talent-spotter Keitaro Kamo (who is a regular guest on my weekly InterFM program, Beyond the Charts ) got wind of rock band Kishidan while attending a funeral.
