Demon's 1981 debut album, Night of the Demon, promises to deliver a single-mindedly "metallic" example of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal style. And so do the ensuing title track and the brilliant "Into the Nightmare," which, despite offering surprisingly singalong choruses and Thin Lizzy-like melodic guitar lines, hardly fall far from the heavy metal family tree, either. That's just as well, in any case, as Night of the Demon still qualifies as one of the finer debuts by the many bands associated with that movement.

The groundbreaking 1981 debut British Metal band. Night of the Demon was the album that first introduced the songwriting talents of Dave Hill and Mal Spooner to the world. Dark, occult-based lyrical themes make up half the album, and the whole concept was shrouded in mystery at the time of it's original release. Still regarded as a classic over two decades later.

Founded in 1979 by over 30’s middle-class Britons, Demon were recognized as “NWOBHM institutions”, but their musical style fits better to a simple Deep Purple-like Hard Rock with hoarse and folk-ish vocals and power-chord arrangements. The songs on their 1981 debut album Night of the Demon are medium-length and based on pentatonic scales. The songs are catchy, but conventional or poppish (“Fool to Play the Hard Way”), so those allergic to “Dinosaur Rock” are advised to avoid this band.Highlights: “Fool to Play the Hard Way”.
