I knew Fred Drake back in the day when he was playing drums in a "boy band" (his terminology, not mine nor any of his band mates'). He was a unique individual, smart and funny. All of us miss him. All of us loved him. He was enormnously creative although a lot of his inspiration was directed internally. His CD is aptly titled, because Fred was shy, almost to the point of isolating himself. This album expresses that shyness, that sense of spiritual isolation, as well as any I could imagine.

Fred Drake's dedication for Twice Shy sums it up: "Although many a moon has passed and many a boy band too, through me, to you, this is the record that I moved to the desert to make. On June 20, 2002, Fred died as he lived - with grace and dignity, surrounded by friends in his home in Joshua Tree.
